The whole life of Bhimsen Joshi
Pandit Bhimsen Joshi was very fond of music since childhood. He was deeply influenced by Abdul Karim Khan, the founder of the grocery house. In 1932, he left the house in search of the Guru. For the next two years, he lived in Bijapur, Pune and Gwalior. He also studied music from Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan of Gwalior. But he got his early education in classical music from Pandit Rambhau Kundalkar, a disciple of Abdul Karim Khan. He also visited Calcutta and Punjab before returning home. Seven years before this, shehnai maestro Ustad Bismillah Khan was decorated with Bharat Ratna. In the year 1936, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi received training from Sawai Gandharva Pandit Rambhan Kundgolkar, a well-known Khayal singer and a disciple of Abdul Karim Khan, as a devoted disciple of various genres of music at Kundgol near Gadag. There he also learned the nuances of Khayal singing from Sawai Gandharva for many years. Pandit Bhimsen Joshi enriched the Kirana Gharana by developing his own distinctive style and also incorporated the characteristics of other Gharanas into his singing. He is credited with the fact that he composed many ragas and composed new ragas like Kalashri and Lalit Bhatiyar. He has mastered Khayal singing as well as Thumri and Bhajan. Pandit Bhimsen Joshi died on 26 January 2011.
Bharat Ratna
He was selected for the country’s highest civilian honor, the Bharat Ratna Award, which is India’s highest civilian award, on November 8, 2007. ‘He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in the year 1975 in the field of art by the Government of India.
Born on 4 February 1922 in Karnataka’s Gadak district, Pt. Bhimsen Joshi has been given many adornments and honors including Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.

Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, an 86-year-old classical singer from the Kirana gharana, performed his singing art from a public stage for the first time at the age of 19 and his journey continues to this day. He first performed his Pune rendition in January 1946 on the 60th birthday of his mentor Sawai Gandharva. The songs sung by him were Piya Milan Ki Aas, which always made Bhaje Hari and Mile Sur Mera Tumhara very famous.

With the death of Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, there was a wave of mourning in the music world.
A wave of mourning rose in the music world with the demise of renowned classical singer Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi. Famous flute player Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia told the BBC, “He was a man of history in the Indian music world. He was like a saint. Artists like him are born once in a thousand years.”
